AW Control Systems are one of the leading companies specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of automatic control systems with an international customer base.
As a result of business growth AW Control Systems out grew their current premises and approached Paul Hamill to undertake an assessment of various potential sites for their new office and production facilities. A suitable site was found and McCarter Hamill Architects where assigned the task of designing a new Production Building, Offices & Auxiliary Accommodation. The site had an existing agricultural style shed on the site which was to be upgraded in such a way that it integrated into the new structures. The existing site layout was rationalised to allow for visitors parking, company van parking, deliveries including the renewal of all hard/soft landscaping and new boundary treatments.
The visibility of the Office Entrance was maximised with the use of ‘AW Control Systems red’ fibre cement cladding between the full height aluminium office windows. The entrance is further emphasised with a projecting canopy spanning over the length of the full height office and reception windows, with no visible structure, to the front elevation. The slap dash to the existing building was removed and replaced with smooth render finished with a self-cleaning off white paint, this along with painting the existing cladding to match the new building visually tied the retained and new buildings together.
To reinforce communication between production and the drawing/administration office block, link doors and observation windows where included to minimise the division between the two internal functional elements of the business.
The finished building fulfils the client’s needs and is in keeping with and an extension of their company branding.
