Side extension to dwelling to accommodate an open plan kitchen/living dining extension to ground floor and master suite to first floor. Due to timeframe restrictions and poor ground conditions timber frame construction was chosen. It was decided not to build an external leaf of masonry but rather use light grey/white ship-lapped fibre cement cladding as a rain-screen in conjunction with light grey aluminium windows, cills and surround flashings. An elongated corner window was installed to the kitchen to maximise the view to the rear of the property and a frameless corner window to the first floor ensuite. Zinc fascia’s, soffits and rainwater goods where used with a standing seam Zinc roof to the extension and the new lean-to roof to the front door forming a open porch.
The finished extension successfully integrates into the original building and has a New England feel to it.
